Boston Cream Cake

Vanilla cake filled with pastry cream and topped with chocolate glaze.

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • For cream: 2 cups milk, 1/2 cup sugar, 3 egg yolks, 1/4 cup cornstarch, 2 tbsp butter, 1 tsp vanilla
  • For glaze: 4 oz chocolate, 1/2 cup cream, 1 tbsp butter

    Make vanilla cake; bake at 350°F in two round pans.

    Make pastry cream; chill completely.

    Split each layer horizontally.

    Fill between layers with pastry cream.

    Make glaze; pour over top, letting drip down sides.

  • Pastry cream must be completely cold
  • Let glaze set before serving
