Chocolate Babka

Rich twisted bread swirled with chocolate filling. Better than cinnamon babka.

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • For filling: 6 oz dark chocolate, 1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup powdered sugar, 2 tbsp cocoa
  • Simple syrup for brushing

    Make enriched dough; knead 10 minutes.

    Rise 1 1/2 hours.

    Make filling: melt chocolate and butter; stir in sugar, cocoa.

    Roll dough; spread filling.

    Roll up; cut lengthwise.

    Twist halves together; place in loaf pan.

    Rise 45 minutes.

    Bake at 350F for 35-40 minutes.

    Brush with simple syrup.
