Classic Vanilla Layer Cake

A beautiful two-layer vanilla cake with fluffy buttercream frosting. Perfect for birthdays!

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • For frosting: 1 1/2 cups butter, 6 cups powdered sugar, 4 tbsp milk, 2 tsp vanilla

    Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round pans.

    Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together.

    Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes.

    Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.

    Alternate adding flour mixture and milk in three additions.

    Divide batter between pans and bake 28-32 minutes.

    Cool completely before frosting.

    For frosting: Beat butter until creamy, add powdered sugar gradually, then milk and vanilla.

    Frost between layers and cover entire cake.
