German Chocolate Bars

Chocolate brownie base with coconut pecan frosting on top.

  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • For topping: 1 cup evaporated milk, 1 cup sugar, 3 egg yolks, 1/2 cup butter, 1 1/3 cups coconut, 1 cup pecans

    Mix cake mix, 1/3 cup milk, and melted butter.

    Press half into 9x13 pan; bake 10 minutes.

    Sprinkle with chocolate chips.

    Drop remaining dough on top.

    Bake at 350°F for 20 more minutes.

    Make topping: cook milk, sugar, yolks, butter until thick.

    Stir in coconut and pecans; spread on bars.
