German Chocolate Cake
Chocolate layers with coconut pecan frosting. Not actually German!

- 4 oz German sweet chocolate
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- For frosting: 1 cup evaporated milk, 1 cup sugar, 3 egg yolks, 1/2 cup butter, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 1/3 cups coconut, 1 cup pecans

Melt chocolate in water; cool.

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and vanilla.

Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk.

Stir in chocolate.

Bake in three pans at 350°F for 25-30 minutes.

Make frosting: cook milk, sugar, yolks, butter until thick.

Add vanilla, coconut, pecans. Cool; spread between layers.
